COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Scripps Relief Fund allocated $110,000 to five organizations to aid recovery from Texas flooding — supporting meals, mental health services, community support and animal care. The San Antonio Food Bank, Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Centers, and the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country each received $25,000, while Operation BBQ Relief got $10,000 and Austin Pets Alive received $25,000 — funds that will boost local disaster relief efforts.  KRIS 6 News
  • Two state representatives from flood-hit districts addressed the House on Thursday, thanking donors and outlining plans to aid communities affected by the July Fourth floods. H-E-B volunteers filled 1,700 backpacks that will be handed out today at Miller High School’s back-to-school health fair hosted by Lead First.  Action 10 News
  • Nine-year-old Lilly Underbrink from Flour Bluff set up a lemonade stand and raised $142, donating every penny to flood victims in Kerr County. Her family brought the funds to a local Whataburger, where money was already being collected for the relief effort.  KRIS 6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities in Nueces County are searching for 19-year-old Eduardo Manuel Hernandez for murder and officer safety after a July 10th shooting in Agua Dulce—he is believed to be staying at his parents’ house in Corpus Christi and may be trying to flee to California—and urge anyone with information to come forward.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Port Aransas Community Theater will show Beetlejuice Jr.—a musical adapted from the film—with local young actors, including 14-year-old Adriel Jimenez in his first lead role. The show will run on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. until August 3.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • London ISD is spending just under $800,000 to retrofit three campuses with secure vestibules (using impact-resistant materials to add extra security checkpoints) as officials expect door deliveries within the next couple weeks and parents praise the added safety.  Action 10 News
  • Del Mar College will host its 11th Annual Mexican American Studies Summer Seminar on Saturday, July 29, from 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the Solomon Coles Building on the Heritage Campus - the free event will include a ceremonial Mexica danza, a keynote by artist Tony Armadillo and panels on Chicana identity and mariachi music.  KRIS 6 News
  • Esperanza de Tejas will partner with Driscoll Health Plan, Texas A&M University — and The Free Store Corpus Christi to host a free back-to-school event on July 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Garcia Arts and Education Center on Agnes Street where families will receive hygiene items, clothing, haircuts, immunizations and more while supplies last.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A section of the Lawrence T-Head near the marina office was closed starting Thursday, July 24 for pier replacement as crews installed water and sewer lines—access remained open with posted detour signs. The $19 million project also included dredging the marina, building new concrete floating docks, and upgrading water, wastewater, and electrical services over an estimated two-week period.  KRIS 6 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health experts in Corpus Christi say Red Dye 40, used in many snacks and drinks, may cause hyperactivity in about 10% of kids and urge parents to choose natural foods to support better brain function — although most children are not strongly affected, the FDA will phase out the remaining dyes by the end of 2026.  Action 10 News
