- ➤ Today from 5 to 10 p.m., the Free Store Corpus Christi in partnership with over 30 community organizations will host a back-to-school resource fair at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center on Corpus Christi’s West Side. The event will provide free clothing, haircuts, immunizations, school supplies, games, and snacks to help at least 1,100 families start the school year prepared—guests are urged to arrive early due to high demand. - ➤ Johnna (A380192) is the KRIS 6 Pet of the Week at Corpus Christi Animal Control Services; she is a friendly 6-month-old Black and White Labrador mix who has been at the shelter since April 11 and loves running around, getting belly rubs, and eating treats. Visitors can meet her Monday through Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Action 10 News

- ➤ Corpus Christi’s Whataburger will mark its 75th anniversary by offering a classic 75-cent burger on August 8 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Rewards members (limited to one discounted burger per account) and will release commemorative cups starting August 5; fans will join an Orange Out celebration at Whataburger Field on August 8 at 7:05 p.m. as the Corpus Christi Hooks face the Tulsa Drillers (with special giveaways and orange fireworks planned). - ➤ House of Rock celebrated 20 years of live music in Corpus Christi with local bands and tributes from community members—since it opened in 2005, the venue has served as a hub for music and cultural events. - ➤ Corpus Christi ISD named six new principals for schools including Ella Barnes Elementary and Lexington Middle School for the upcoming academic year. Superintendent Dr. Hernandez said the leaders come from within the district and have strong experience — officials expect a smooth transition in leadership across campuses. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ The Coastal Bend is hosting a series of back-to-school giveaways to help students gear up for the new school year. Event highlights include STVT Corpus Christi’s Bring Your Own Backpack on Aug. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.—CCPD’s Operation Safe Return on Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—El Vago and J12’s School Supply Giveaway on Aug. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m.—a 5th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway on Aug. 5 at 310 N 19th Street—and a Back-to-School Event on Aug. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Robstown. - ➤ Corpus Christi ISD updated its book challenge procedures when the Board of Trustees approved Senate Bill 13 on July 28—this change creates a school library advisory council made up mostly of parents to review challenges and acquisitions while parents can block specific titles online. The council will hold open meetings and begin training on collection development standards in mid-October, and any material not removed after a challenge cannot be contested again for two years. - ➤ CCISD adopted a new cell phone ban policy for schools. City leaders met recently to discuss the changes and prepare for the upcoming school year. KIII-TV

- ➤ Corpus Christi City Council delayed voting on spending another $50M for the Inner Harbor desalination plant until August 26 so council members can review rising costs, debt, and water supply alternatives. City staff warned that a change in plans may affect bond ratings and state matching funds — and council members remain divided on the project's future. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Corpus Christi's Janet F. Harte Library is reducing its public hours from 44 to 24 weekly starting August 11 to boost student safety at Flour Bluff High School—weekday access will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday access from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with other branches available for additional services.
