- ➤ Robstown community mourned Lt. Albert Stout—a 31-year veteran of the police department who died Wednesday after contracting typhus on duty and had been hospitalized since February. Funeral services will be held on August 14 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at New Life At The Cross and on August 15 at 12 p.m. with a graveside service immediately following at Funeraria Del Angel as community members pay their respects. - ➤ A Corpus Christi neighbor, David Perez, who jogs on the new Harbor Bridge, has been picking up water bottles, cigarette butts, and other trash — urging his neighbors to keep the area clean and asking officials to add trash cans at each end of the bridge. KRIS 6 News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Early Monday at 12:42 a.m., a rollover crash on US 77 near State Hwy 89 left 74-year-old Hilda Montes de Magallan dead and injured three others, including a five-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy+ investigators said the 2021 Honda Accord left the roadway, hit a highway sign and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest. - ➤ Matthew Liam Johnstone, a 36-year-old Irish national, has been charged with four counts of sexual exploitation and four counts of coercion and enticement after allegedly forcing a minor to film sexually explicit conduct in September 2022—if convicted he will face up to life in prison and fines of up to $250,000. - ➤ Lexington Middle School will open on August 11 with a new drop-off and pick-up plan, and parents are advised to use the second entrance off Yorktown via Leadership Drive — left turns are not allowed — while Creekside Elementary will maintain its drop-off process but adjust its pick-up for younger students. - ➤ Ben Bolt residents have faced health risks from failing septic systems for years, and local officials are planning a $65 million USDA grant project to build a modern sewer system for nearly 700 homes. The new system will connect residences to the Alice South Side Treatment Plant and officials will learn the grant details in September — residents say the change is long overdue. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Corpus Christi City Council voted for a 30-day pause on a $1.2 billion desalination plant so they can ask the Texas Water Development Board if canceling it might lose over $500 million in state funds—some council members said they would back smaller water projects if the cost is not reduced. City officials warned that the delay could cost ratepayers $5 million to $10 million and lead to higher water bills as local water supplies stay very low. KRIS 6 News
