- ➤ Corpus Christi plans big upgrades to Northside parks. The former Washington Elementary campus will get an amphitheater, pavilion, food truck court and trailhead plaza while T.C. Ayers Park will add a softball field, sidewalks and an aquatic center, and other parks will see new trailheads and playgrounds — city records show. Caller Times

- ➤ Brewster Street Icehouse opens its new island restaurant at 11 a.m. Tuesday with live music from Thursday—Saturday, a family-friendly patio, and a playground while serving the same full menu as its other locations. KIII-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two men were arrested over the weekend for reckless driving—21-year-old Roy Blaker drove near 100 mph on Highway 358 and faces unlawful carrying of a weapon while 23-year-old Elijah Garcia was stopped on Shoreline Boulevard and faces possession of a controlled substance. KIII-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students returned to school on August 11 at Calk-Wilson Elementary and Hamlin Middle School in Corpus Christi ISD—teachers and principals welcomed them as children settled into new classes and grades. Parents helped ease the start of the school year as the campus buzzed with activity. Caller Times
- ➤ Corpus Christi Independent School District officials announced that the school year which began on August 11 had new rules requiring students to keep cell phones in their backpacks along with added safety measures such as increased officer presence and stricter policies on vaping and bullying. The district also set updated rules for attendance, library oversight, religious displays, and bonds renovations—and reported improvements in STAAR test scores to boost accountability and learning.
