ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An Austin woman on her family's first trip to Port Aransas was stung by a stingray in shallow summer waters and got emergency care including a tetanus shot and antibiotics—marine experts advise using the stingray shuffle to avoid further injuries. KRIS 6 News
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A study by SeaD Consulting found that 25 of 44 Corpus Christi restaurants mislabeled their shrimp by listing imported or farm-raised products as local Gulf shrimp — a new rule starting on Sept 1 will enforce proper labeling to support our local seafood industry. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Brewster Street Icehouse opened its third location—On the Island—Tuesday to offer the same menu favorites, live music from Thursday through Saturday, and waterfront sunset views with a redesigned kitchen and new family playground. Management plans to hold a grand opening celebration soon. KRIS 6 News

- ➤ Students returned to West Oso Elementary yesterday for the new school year—teachers said the halls filled with energy and urged students to keep their enthusiasm for learning. KRIS 6 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Corpus Christi City Council awarded a $16.5M contract to JE Construction Services to upgrade six parks and trails affected by Harbor Bridge construction. The project will add features like an amphitheater—new sidewalks and trail access are planned, with funding coming from the 2014 Parks Bond and other reimbursements. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Drivers are advised that starting August 14, northbound I-37 traffic from Bayfront, Downtown and SEA district areas will be detoured as crews restore and pave Harbor Bridge main lanes—commuters heading to Calallen will take Frontage Road to re-enter I-37. The detour is set to last through fall, so drivers should plan alternate routes and slow down in work zones. KIII-TV
- ➤ County officials say work on the new Bob Hall Pier is on track and will be finished by the end of the year. The redesigned pier has a diamond shaped end that helps manage water surge and a restaurant is planned to open in summer 2026. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Mayor Guajardo told the city council to approve the seawater desalination project by September 5 to avoid wasting $231 million in state bonds and leaving taxpayers paying for water that will come only in 4–5 years—she warned that delaying the decision risks future water funding and local security. Local leaders, including Councilman Cantu and State Sen. Hinojosa, stressed that quick action is needed to keep Corpus Christi's water supply safe. KIII-TV
- ➤ City council approved the Barisi Village project and financing plan today — several members remain concerned over developer Jack Blackard's lack of a firm start date and will request an in-person update soon. KRIS 6 News
