BUSINESS NEWS

  • Business owners and community leaders gathered at the Boys — Girls Club for a Small Business Expo that celebrated Black Business Month and showcased Black-owned businesses. The Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce hosted the event and will hold a Black Tie Gala in November.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Corpus Christi museum hosted a World Elephant Day event — its first festival since 2019 — that provided fun and learning for families.  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Corpus Christi ISD is teaming up with the Boys & Girls Club and the city to expand after school care for families needing affordable childcare options. The programs run from 3:10 to 6 p.m. with fees of $100 at the club and $109 for the first child and $94 for the second through the city.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi Independent School District earned a B rating from the Texas Education Agency for the 2024-2025 school year by scoring 81 points; nine schools earned A ratings and 40 campuses received distinctions—officials plan to support schools with lower marks.  Action 10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Union officials warned that hundreds of defense contractor and federal positions at Corpus Christi Army Depot face elimination due to expiring contracts, which they say could affect military readiness and the local economy. Colonel Kevin Consedine confirmed that 166 workers will be laid off on September 30 and noted that further cuts are possible if workloads continue to decline.  Action 10 News
