ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 71-year-old Sandia man died after a head-on collision on FM 738 (just north of Orange Grove) when Ramon Reyes Estrada attempted to pass a turning vehicle and his 1998 Chevrolet pickup collided with a 2002 Ford F-150 driven by 66-year-old Humberto Ramon, authorities said.  KRIS 6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Blue Bell Creameries is voluntarily recalling a limited run of Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream after a packaging error resulted in undeclared almonds, walnuts, and pecans being included in wrong cartons at its Brenham facility. Customers who purchased the product—distributed across 16 states—can return it for a full refund, and no illnesses have been reported.  KRIS 6 News
  • SpaceX will launch its 10th Starship test flight tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT from its South Texas site at Starbase—this flight will try to bring the rocket's upper stage back to the launch area and test deploying Starlink satellites after recent explosive setbacks.  Caller Times

CRIME NEWS

  • ICE officers arrested Ahmed Mohamed Yasser Salama—an Egyptian national charged with sexual abuse and immigration violations—in Corpus Christi on August 19, adding his case to ongoing removal proceedings.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Corpus Christi 7-Day Film Project will show 25 films from local teams at Alamo Drafthouse on August 31, with doors opening at 12:15 p.m. and the first screening at 1:00 p.m.—this event celebrates a long-running challenge where filmmakers create a complete short film in 7 days.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flour Bluff ISD has received a $100K grant from the Port of Corpus Christi to start a new Maritime Career and Technical Education program that will launch in the 2025–2026 school year. The program will train high school students in maritime safety and environmental stewardship—opening local job opportunities.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi City Council has delayed its vote on the $1.2 billion Inner Harbor seawater desalination plant—originally set for Aug. 26—to Sept. 2 because the Texas Water Development Board has not clarified key questions about low-interest loans. Council members say the delay is needed to avoid extra cost and schedule risks, and contractor Kiewit warned that further delays may raise expenses.  Caller Times
  • The city announced that water line improvements on Everhart Road and South Padre Island Drive will begin on Monday, Aug. 25 and finish in March 2026. During the first phase, northbound Everhart Road will close between Corona Drive and SPID—redirecting traffic and causing delays at the SPID intersection.  KIII-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ronnie 'Pointy Boots' Mathis, a local veteran and community icon, has been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and a benefit will be held today at Hi-Ho Drive In—3945 Baldwin Blvd—to help cover his medical expenses. Organizer Pete Trevino, who has supported local fundraisers, said neighbors and veterans will join to honor Ronnie’s contributions.  KIII-TV
