COMMUNITY NEWS

  • KEDT is hosting Classic Brew, its 29th annual event, on Sept. 4 at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History to raise funds after recent federal budget cuts—featuring over 25 restaurants, 150 beers, and live music from 7 to 9:30 p.m. to support local public broadcasting.  KIII-TV
  • Ingleside is growing fast as new homes, businesses, and construction projects emerge around town—reshaping the local landscape for residents.  KIII-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 60-year-old Corpus Christi woman, Angelita Chavez, died after a pickup truck hit her SUV at an intersection on FM 43—FM 2444 just after 11 p.m.; the pickup driver was injured and taken to a hospital.  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. News and World Report released rankings on Aug. 19 that showed no Corpus Christi high school reached the top— the School of Science and Technology ranked 168 in Texas while Calallen High School was the highest among traditional public schools at 317. The Texas Education Agency also gave letter grades, with seven local high schools earning an A.  Caller Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A lightning-sparked wildfire that began Friday, August 22 near the Malaquite Visitor Center in Padre Island National Seashore burned 3,000 acres and is 70% contained—firefighters continue to monitor the blaze as it burns.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi officials are considering reintroducing a street maintenance fee to fund residential street repairs as the city faces a projected shortfall for fiscal year 2027. If approved in January 2026, the fee will rise from $5.30 to about $6.60 per month and is expected to generate roughly $15 million over nine months—helping close the funding gap.  Caller Times
  • Eight years after Hurricane Harvey hit, Aransas County is still fighting to finish its new courthouse — delayed by construction problems, rising costs and legal disputes — and county officials are working on fixing courtrooms and jail cells. They expect to move into the building by Christmas once the remaining issues are resolved.  Caller Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials in Corpus Christi say that with COVID active and flu season coming soon, residents should get their flu shots by early November and follow steps like washing hands and isolating if sick — free shots are available at the Nueces County Public Health District and local pharmacies.  KRIS 6 News
