- ➤ The Ark Assessment Center and Emergency Shelter for Youth is celebrating 25 years of helping children in need in the Coastal Bend area and will host a gala on Sept. 18 at the Borchard Fairgrounds. Board president Sister Milagros Tormo said the center provides full support to over 4,000 children who have faced abuse — a milestone reflecting its lasting commitment to care. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Today, The Purple Door is urgently seeking donations of towels, feminine hygiene products, linens, diapers, and other essential items to support domestic violence survivors. Donations are accepted at the Purple Door Resale at 4202 South Alameda Street—open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. KRIS 6 News

- ➤ Corpus Christi Police raided Good Time Game Room Thursday afternoon, arresting 58-year-old floor attendant Arleen Torres of Sinton and 50-year-old armed security guard Billy Joe Gutierrez of Edinburg—both charged with money laundering, gambling offenses, and, in Gutierrez’s case, unlawful firearm possession with a tampered identification number. - ➤ The Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi received a gas generator donation from Holt Cat to keep its surgical suite, marine mammal rehabilitation pool, and turtle hospital running when severe weather comes—ensuring injured animals continue to get care during power outages. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave that is expected to move off Africa on August 31 and may slowly develop over the Atlantic—while Texas has experienced a quiet hurricane season so far compared to last year’s early storms Alberto and Beryl. Caller Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Corpus Christi got a $15 million federal grant to update its wastewater treatment plants and help fight floods—Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham handed the check, and Mayor Paulette Guajardo said the money will add flood protection and backup power at Greenwood and Oso plants. The funding comes from a state program and will help keep the city safer during bad weather. KRIS 6 News
