  • This morning, paddleboarders and kayakers gathered at North Padre Island’s Gypsy Park Boat Launch for the 15th annual Paddle for Parkinson's event—raising funds for Parkinson's disease research. Neighbors enjoyed a 2.5-mile loop, live music, barbecue and an awards ceremony that brought the community together.  KRIS 6 News

  • A manatee swam into a $64 million TX-DOT project in Port Aransas, halting work as Texas State Aquarium gears up for rescues—officials say the unexpected animal had the right of way.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a string of recent fires, Nueces County has put a burn ban in place—this rule will block beach bonfires during Labor Day weekend.  KIII-TV
  • A judge in Idaho declared 12-year-old Elisa Roberson legally dead 36 years after she disappeared while walking to meet a friend near her Aransas Pass home—her family said the ruling brings legal closure although they continue to follow new tips.  KIII-TV
  • Texas voters will decide in November on a proposal that would allocate $1 billion a year for water supply and infrastructure over the next 20 years across the state. Local officials say the funding could support key projects such as the Inner Harbor desalination plant—vital for addressing water shortages in coastal areas.  KIII-TV
