ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Students at West Oso Elementary were safe after a woman having a medical emergency crashed into the school bus on the 1500 block of Cliff Maus Drive (just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning) and one person was taken to the hospital as police investigate the incident.  KRIS 6 News
  • The Corpus Christi Fire Department investigated a fire that broke out Monday night after 9:30 p.m. at the Herrman and Herrman law office on the 1200 block of Third Street—no one was inside as the interior suffered total loss and extensive water damage, and an electrical issue was reported as the likely cause.  Action 10 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Corpus Christi bike shop in the Bay Area had its front door broken with a brick early Tuesday, allowing thieves to steal several electric bikes and scooters worth over $10,000—one bike was later recovered while others remain missing as police continue their investigation.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Rivers ISD is asking local voters to approve a $23 million bond package for safety improvements and facility renovations—split into three proposals on the November ballot. If approved, taxes will rise by 5 cents, a public meeting is set for September 16 at 6 p.m., and work will begin in 2026.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A tropical wave in the Atlantic is likely to become a tropical depression later this week while remnant moisture from Hurricane Lorena brings scattered showers and isolated flooding risks to parts of Texas — activity will increase as the hurricane season peaks on Sept. 10. Residents are urged to prepare by reviewing disaster plans and checking flood insurance requirements.  Caller Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The old Harbor Bridge closed today and new access points now let drivers and pedestrians reach North Beach—vehicles take the new Beach Avenue exit and frontage road while pedestrians use a new walkway near the vape shop. Flatiron/Dragados spokesperson Lynn Allison said a parking lot will soon be built and more southside connectivity improvements are expected.  KIII-TV
  • In Ingleside, planning and zoning commissioners voted against a proposed tank farm, but the project will still move forward to city council—raising concerns among residents about the safety risks of having tanks so near homes and schools.  KRIS 6 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Calallen ISD launched a Mental Health & Awareness Series for Suicide Prevention Month to teach parents, teachers, and students how to spot warning signs that can lead to timely help. Experts note that suicide is the second leading cause of death for Texas youth and stress that recognizing mood & behavior changes may help save lives in our community.  KRIS 6 News
