  • St. Pius X Catholic School in Corpus Christi held a rosary prayer service on Friday to honor victims of a Minneapolis school shooting that killed 2 and injured 17; Principal Beth Hinojosa said students, parents and staff united in faith to call for an end to violence.  KRIS 6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cinergy Entertainment broke ground on the Southside for a new $45M, 90,000-square-foot entertainment complex near SPID on Rodd Field Road—featuring a theater, bowling, and a sports bar—that will create 200 local jobs, while the CEO announced a surprise phase two with an indoor electric go-kart track and mini golf; construction is expected to begin by the end of 2025 as the city provides up to $4.15M in tax rebates and anticipates generating $17M in local taxes.  KRIS 6 News
  • A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Sept. 5 in Corpus Christi's Southside for the future Cinergy Entertainment Center, marking a milestone before construction begins.  Caller Times

  • Assistant City Manager Heather Hurlbert announced her resignation effective Sept. 19, saying the challenging work environment led her to leave after over 5 years and seek a private sector role in Austin—another top official, Drew Molly, resigned on Aug. 20 to become Houston’s chief water officer.  Caller Times
  • A Nueces County judge ruled in August that Johnny Canales’ widow is the rightful heir to his estate—she was legally married to him on March 13, and the court rejected Sylvia Castillo’s claim. The decision ended the legal dispute over the musician’s estate.  Caller Times
