  • The Texas State Aquarium is moving its dolphins and adjusting operations so that animals and visitors are safe when the old Harbor Bridge will be lowered this fall—steps planned to reduce risks during demolition.  KIII-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Corpus Christi Judge Susan Barclay set a trial for December for Oscar Uribe, who pleaded not guilty to murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the 2020 killing of 21-year-old Benjamin Resendez—he and his nephew are accused of shooting, dismembering and burning his remains after picking him up at his mother's Calallen apartment on July 5, 2020 at 3 a.m.  KIII-TV
  • Mathis Police are investigating the accidental shooting that killed 14‑year‑old Deshoune Pope, who shot himself in the eye at a friend's home on the 800 block of Olivo Street on Saturday—authorities have not determined how he got the gun.  KRIS 6 News
  • Mathis PD Chief Guillermo Figueroa said a teenager was killed in an accidental shooting—he was examining a friend's gun when the tragedy occurred.  KIII-TV
  • On Sept 8, Nueces County Sheriff J.C. Hooper reported a $2 million phishing scam targeted county funds—his department is investigating the fraud.  Caller Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Club Estates Elementary launched a new robotics LEGO club that attracted nearly 100 students — club leaders said the club will boost STEM learning at the school.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nueces County officials are working to recover hundreds of thousands of dollars lost in a $2 million email scam that targeted the county courthouse — five fake transfers were identified, with some funds recovered while new safeguards and paper check procedures are now in place.  Caller Times
  • Moody’s Investors Service is reviewing Corpus Christi finances after noting concerns with reserve levels, utility rates, and water supply planning—its meeting with city officials has been moved to Sept 12. City Council will vote on a new rate proposal today, and a potential downgrade could force higher borrowing costs that may lead to rate hikes or service cuts.  KRIS 6 News
