  • Gill Garden Center + Landscape Co. is launching a series of fall gardening events starting tomorrow, September 13, with free veggie gardening talks, kids’ activities, art projects, workshops, and plant fests scheduled through December. The events offer hands-on projects like gourd painting and pumpkin succulent potting and invite families to learn and share gardening tips.  The Bend Magazine
  • First responders and service members at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi held a ceremony Wednesday to remember the 2,996 lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, featuring a piece of the World Trade Center Twin Towers. Officials and witnesses shared personal reflections—emphasizing that the memory of the sacrifices will be preserved for future generations.  KRIS 6 News
  • Junior Eliana Galvan of St. John Paul II Academy is hosting Once Upon a Dress to give Coastal Bend girls free dresses for homecoming; the event is scheduled for September 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center, and local donations—dresses, shoes, makeup and services—will be accepted until September 24.  KRIS 6 News
  • First responders and community members gathered at Whataburger Field for the sixth annual 9/11 stair climb that honored heroes' courage and sacrifice—showing strong local respect for their service.  KIII-TV
  • Today, TAMUCC students cleaned headstones at Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery from 9 a.m. to noon as part of the National Day of Service to honor 9/11 and local veterans. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Corpus Christi residents faced higher monthly bills as water fees and wastewater charges increased by $4.78 and $4.20 respectively while rising property values and a 7.59% county tax hike boosted property tax bills by about $9 monthly. The City Council passed the new budget this week and officials warned that more fee hikes may come as the city plans major projects — desalination and drought preparation.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Families in Corpus Christi will be able to use Education Savings Accounts in 2026 to help pay for private school tuition, uniforms, meals, and therapies—each account providing up to $1,250 per student or more for homeschool and special needs. The program lets unused funds carry over for future school years and approves all children in a family when one is approved.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi residents will see increased water and wastewater rates starting January 1 as City Council approved a raise of $4.78 for water and $4.20 for wastewater—measures needed to fund aging infrastructure and uphold the city’s credit rating.  Action 10 News
  • Jim Wells County leaders approved a 5% raise for jail staff and other employees to fill positions and ease daily strain—Sheriff Guy Baker said the boost will help manage ongoing staffing shortages.  KIII-TV
  • A forensic audit at Nueces County Emergency Service District 4 uncovered that board members bought military surplus vehicles and that several equipment items remain missing—violating federal rules. Officials said new software and tighter tracking will help recover the missing items, and the board may involve law enforcement if necessary.  KRIS 6 News

  • Today, a new vending machine in downtown Corpus Christi dispenses free Narcan 24/7 — giving residents immediate access to life-saving overdose reversal medication.  KIII-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity broke ground on two new homes on Mary Street in Corpus Christi as a ceremonial wall raising marked its first new construction in four years—this project is built in memory of President Jimmy Carter and late community leader Jean Bolini. Brianna Platz, who is building one of the homes for herself and her three daughters, said the home is expected to be complete by December.  KRIS 6 News
