COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in the Coastal Bend are experiencing power outages — utility crews are working to restore service as soon as possible.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi approved a $12.5M reconstruction project for Starlite Lane in Annaville with work set to begin in October and finish by January 2027—Camp Mystic also announced it will reopen next summer with updated safety procedures and a memorial for flood victims. A nearby Razzoo's Cajun Cafe closed abruptly after three years.  KRIS 6 News
  • Power went out in parts of the Coastal Bend after heavy rain and maintenance work on Thursday, and crews are still working to bring electricity back. In Port Aransas, power might return by 10:30 a.m. and in Aransas Pass by 9:30 a.m. while Rockport faces delays from planned maintenance and Gregory-Portland has outages from trees—AEP warns residents to stay clear of downed lines.  KRIS 6 News

  • After Razzoo's Cajun Cafe closed suddenly last Monday, local restaurants Ginger Cafe and Panjo's Pizza Parlor offered immediate work to more than a dozen former employees. They also promised to help find additional work if needed—showing strong support in the local economy.  KRIS 6 News
  • Sames Ford has unveiled a vehicle that one Corpus Christi high school student will win this spring for perfect attendance.  Caller Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • A local family mariachi group has passed a cherished sombrero from one generation to the next to honor their cultural heritage & keep their musical tradition alive in Corpus Christi.  KIII-TV
  • John Oliva, a local reporter, has been cast as Nikos Argitakos in Harbor Playhouse’s fall production of Legally Blonde: The Musical which runs for 15 shows from today through October 26. He faced a tough audition and felt isolated at first—later he built friendships and grew in confidence as he prepared for his role.  Caller Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Baker Middle School eighth grader Aiden Kim earned a national honor by being named one of the top 300 Junior Innovators in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge after qualifying at the Coastal Bend Regional Science Fair. He plans to test new ways to produce electricity from rain—building on his past science fair successes and interest in clean energy.  Caller Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi officials publicly discussed Tuesday a new deal that could supply up to 10 million gallons per day by having STWA purchase water from Seven Seas, which runs a desalination plant in Alice — concerns over contract transparency have emerged. Council members will review more details and address public oversight when the issue returns to council on October 14.  Action 10 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new report finds that Corpus Christi tap water contains 13 contaminants tied to cancer—health advocates urge further investigation to protect residents.  KIII-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Corpus Christi high school teams will compete tonight in week five of Friday Night Football—district and non-district games feature matchups starting at 7:00 p.m. and some at 7:30 p.m. as local rivals meet under Friday night lights.  KRIS 6 News
