  • Eighteen wounded warrior service members and their families gathered on Padre Island this weekend for the 11th annual Beach Bash for Wounded Warriors— a free retreat that offered complimentary lodging, meals and activities including sand building and surf lessons. The event provided a needed escape for participants during challenging times.  Action 10 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Texas fell last week when the average price of regular fuel dropped to $2.70 per gallon on Sept. 22 from $2.77—state levels stayed about 15% below the national average of $3.17 per gallon.  Caller Times
  • After Razzoo's Cajun Café closed unexpectedly Monday leaving more than a dozen Corpus Christi workers jobless, Ginger Café and Panjo's Pizza Parlor stepped in to hire the displaced employees—managers at both restaurants promised to offer further support if needed.  Action 10 News

  • The Calallen Education Foundation awarded more than $1 million in grants to teachers across the district—marking a milestone in education funding that will support classroom resources.  KIII-TV
  • A Kingsville-based foundation is offering local South Texas residents support that includes scholarships, mentoring, and financial help to overcome poverty through education. Dream achiever Englan Olivarez Vela is pursuing her bachelor's degree with aid covering everyday costs—like books and parking—and the program invests over $7,000 per student each year.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Corpus Christi Housing Authority has started the search for a new CEO after the board terminated Gary Allsup’s nearly 14 years of service—interim CEO Rhen Bass received a salary increase and a $600 car allowance as the board sought proposals from a search firm for his permanent replacement.  Caller Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Supporters, survivors and local organizers gathered Wednesday night at The Mansion Royale for the 5th Annual BRA Day celebration, featuring a fashion show, raffles and a silent auction that raised funds for The Pink Connection. The event highlighted that Coastal Bend patients could access breast reconstruction locally—helping families keep care close to home.  KIII-TV
  • Today, for National Recovery Month, KRIS 6 spoke with Recovery Support Specialist Stacey Nicole Soto who beat opioid addiction four years ago and now works at the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation to help others on their recovery journey—her own hard past drives her work offering peer support and counseling.  KRIS 6 News

  • More than 900 runners have signed up for the Run the Runway 5K happening today at Corpus Christi International Airport to support Wings of Texas. Packet pickup was held on September 26 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.—late registration was available during pickup before the parking lot gate opened at 6:30 a.m. today.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi high school football games in Week 5 are receiving live updates from Caller-Times—covering scores and matchups like PSJA North at Veterans Memorial as reported by Quinton Martinez on social media.  Caller Times
  • On Friday night, local high school football games saw Orange Grove beat Edna while PSJA North defeated Veterans Memorial. Other matchups featured teams like Tuloso-Midway and Sinton competing hard—adding to a busy evening of regional play.  KIII-TV
