- ➤ Ronald McDonald House Charities hosted its Sarees and Sangria fundraiser on October 2nd in Corpus Christi to raise funds for a six-story expansion that will boost capacity from 25 to 45 rooms and eventually to 60 due to high demand. CEO Michelle Horine said the urgent need stems from 15 to 20 families turned away daily because of limited space — the effort aims to provide a safe place for more families during critical care. - ➤ Agape Ranch nonprofit is hosting its final bed drive of 2025 to build 100 safe beds for vulnerable children; the event will take place on Saturday, October 5 at Yorktown Baptist Church — volunteers will donate twin-size and toddler mattress protectors, bed-in-a-bag sets, and pillows between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A government shutdown began early Wednesday when the Senate did not pass a funding bill by the midnight deadline, forcing many federal workers—including military personnel in Corpus Christi—to work without immediate pay. Reduced staffing may affect visitor services at Padre Island National Seashore and delay SNAP benefits if the shutdown continues into October—up to 750,000 federal workers nationwide could be impacted.
