COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Coastal Bend Day of Giving is scheduled for November 4 and will bring local residents together to support community projects—officials expect additional details soon.  KIII-TV
  • Visitors to the Harbor Bridge walking path are advised to park at a lot on Lake Street near T-C Ayers Park—this lot has sidewalk access—while another parking lot under the new bridge by Churchdale Avenue will open later this week. The shared-use path is open to walkers, bikers, and skateboarders, and rented motorized scooters are banned by the city.  KRIS 6 News
  • Kevin Barnes, a well-loved DJ known as DJ Rewind and truancy officer at Calallen High, died unexpectedly last Friday and left students, colleagues, and friends mourning his vibrant spirit. Tributes have poured in from the community and support is now available at the school (he was also a veteran and youth advocate).  KRIS 6 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities reported that 62-year-old Craig West died when his boat struck a private pier off County Road 2350 in Baffin Bay around 6:30 a.m. Saturday—investigators are assessing whether darkness or a medical condition contributed to the crash.  KIII-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Razzoo's Cajun Cafe in Corpus Christi closed abruptly in late September and its parent and operating companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on October 1 to restructure debts estimated between $10 million and $50 million—over a dozen employees were left without notice. Local restaurants like Ginger Cafe and Panjo's Pizza Parlor are now hiring displaced workers.  KRIS 6 News

  • Tejano music stars Bobby Pulido and Elida Reyna will join Domingo Live this Sunday to celebrate their farewell tours with music and shared memories.  KIII-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Even though fall is here, Corpus Christi residents still face high electricity bills as air conditioners work hard in the lingering South Texas heat—Tom Swanson from Mathews CCAC recommends setting thermostats between 72—76 degrees and raising the setting by seven to eight degrees when away to save energy. This tip helps prevent extra workload on the system and reduces cooling costs.  KRIS 6 News

  • Evelyn James — a student from Incarnate Word Academy — has been chosen as an Ocean Youth Ambassador to represent Gulf Coast youth at the Ocean Progress Symposium in D.C. where she will promote ocean conservation efforts.  KIII-TV
  • Texas residents can apply to public colleges and universities for free from Oct. 13 — Oct. 19 when fees are waived if they use ApplyTexas and submit by 11:59 p.m. on the final day; the fee waiver helps new, transfer, and returning students including Corpus Christi ISD fall intersession students cut costs.  Caller Times

  • Early voting starts October 20th across Texas ahead of the November 4th election — voters will weigh in on key amendments and local races. Election officials say the process will expand polling stations statewide — ensuring more access for every voter.  KIII-TV
