  • Streat Corner Kitchen by Loli's is serving free tacos today in celebration of National Taco Day from 5 to 9 p.m. at 601 N.   • The historic Corpus Christi Cathedral is undergoing a $13.6 million renovation that began with interior updates in 2023 and now includes a new grand hall and enhanced safety features funded partly by $474,283 from TIRZ #3 & other sources.   • Families in the Coastal Bend can enjoy a range of Halloween events throughout October—featuring festive trunk or treat gatherings, haunted houses, and pop-up markets at schools and churches. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Corpus Christi City Council passed the first reading to accept a $100,000 TxDOT grant for traffic enforcement overtime to address speeding, DWIs, and seatbelt violations. Council will hold a second reading on October 14 to finalize the decision—funds will boost enforcement on Interstate 37 and SPID.  KRIS 6 News
  • Nearly 5,000 AEP Texas customers remain without power in Flour Bluff after a transmission outage began Tuesday morning at 10:24 a.m.—AEP crews are working to restore service with power expected by 12:30 p.m.  KRIS 6 News
  • Nueces County commissioners are reviewing proposals that could eliminate the Precinct One JOP Office — officials have not yet provided details on the timing or impact.  KIII-TV
  • Nueces County Board of Judges has appointed Elias Sissamis as the new auditor effective November 3 to restore financial oversight after nearly $2M in losses from fraudulent email scams and cyberattacks. Sissamis brings over 15 years of leadership experience—he will work to stabilize an office that has seen three auditors in four months.  KRIS 6 News

  • This October, health officials in Corpus Christi urge residents to schedule a mammogram—an essential step for early breast cancer detection.  KIII-TV
  • Texas has awarded over $21 million from opioid settlement funds to 109 programs statewide — three Nueces County organizations received grants to expand opioid treatment and prevention efforts. Amistad Health got $25,000 to boost its MAT program while the Cenikor Foundation and Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation each received $195,000 to enhance counseling and outreach.  KRIS 6 News
