COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, more than a dozen local breast cancer survivors and fighters showcased their style at the sold-out 3rd Annual Pink Diva Style Show at Omni Corpus Christi Hotel—raising funds for Breast Friends of CBWF to provide free prostheses and mastectomy bras. KIII-TV
- ➤ Total Assurance A/C & Heating installed a brand-new HVAC system for a deserving Corpus Christi family as part of the national Feel the Love program—this free installation is set to become an annual tradition on the Coastal Bend. The new system will boost energy efficiency and improve the family's comfort. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ The Salvation Army of the Coastal Bend is helping families get Christmas gifts through its Angel Tree Program and has registered 99 families so far. Volunteers will register more families on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Community Center on Buford Street in Corpus Christi—families in Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio must show valid ID, proof of address and income, and children’s birth certificates. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A new business called The Texan plans to open a one-stop store with fuel and fresh food at Corpus Christi International Airport on a vacant eight-acre parcel. The City Council will review a 40-year lease on Oct. 14 that would allow a roughly 12,000-square-foot store with 28 gas pumps and 4 diesel pumps—filling a gap for travelers outside the terminal. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Madison Hickman, a TAMU–Corpus Christi student and Miss Texas United States 2025, shared her dyslexia story today to empower students with learning differences. KIII-TV
- ➤ Corpus Christi ISD reported a 204% rise in pre-K enrollment over the past six years — adding more than 1,700 students — with early reading tests showing 45% of kindergartners who attended pre-K met reading benchmarks compared to 26% who did not. Board officials said that targeted instruction and systematic phonics are helping improve reading and math skills as the school year continues. Caller Times
- ➤ Six Corpus Christi ISD high school bands—with drill teams and color guards—entertained a crowd at Cabaniss Field during the annual Halftime Showcase on Oct. 7. Caller Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Coastal Bend cleanup program that uses reusable yellow bags to reduce beach litter is expanding statewide—bringing its successful 'Up to You' effort to the Texas coast. KIII-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Port Aransas voters will decide on November 4 if they will raise the hotel occupancy tax by 2%—increasing the tax on a $100 hotel stay from $13 to $15 to help fund community center improvements and better connectivity for hotels and short-term rentals. City officials say the increase will raise the city's share of revenue from 7% to 9% over the next 10 years. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Two of Corpus Christi's oldest fire stations built in the 1950s will be torn down and rebuilt with modern facilities — funded by voter-approved bonds — to upgrade fire department services. KIII-TV
- ➤ A proposal to eliminate the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Place 2 office in Nueces County (set for 2026) has drawn strong backlash from residents and Judge Henry Santana who warned the change could delay justice. County Commissioner Mike Pusley introduced the plan to streamline court operations while Commissioner John Marez opposed it, and officials will study changes through next year (to assess efficiency). - ➤ Texas voters will decide on bail reform and property tax proposals in November that may change how Nueces County manages its jail capacity and funds local services. The bail reform plan will deny bail in serious felony cases while the tax measure will support essential public services. KRIS 6 News
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ 7-Eleven will build a new gas station on the corner of Airline Road and McArdle Road at the old Walgreens location, with demolition set to begin Oct.21 and last about two weeks—safety measures will include a fence for this busy intersection, and the work is scheduled to be completed by March 29.
