- ➤ Aransas Pass is preparing to host its 77th Annual Shrimporee festival from Oct 17 to Oct 19 at 200 E. Johnson Ave. Organizers will kick off the celebration on Oct 18 at 10 a.m.—a parade will mark the start of a community event that includes free park and ride shuttles. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Corpus Christi Metro Ministries is hosting its annual supper today—inviting local residents to join for a meal and fellowship. KIII-TV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire on Oct. 6 destroyed the Corpus Christi food truck owned by Alfredo and Nichelle Gonzales at the Trade Center—a friend, Ruben Murillo, launched a GoFundMe to help rebuild the business that now offers a limited menu from a borrowed trailer as firefighters quickly contained the blaze with no injuries. - ➤ Corpus Christi International Airport welcomed its first direct flight from Denver today — a milestone that shows the city’s growing travel links — and local officials say it marks the start of more direct flights in the future. KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A dangerous screwworm was confirmed in a cow in Montemorelos, Mexico (less than 170 miles from the Texas border), and Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller said state agencies have deployed TDA Swormlure traps across South Texas to guard the cattle industry. Two weeks ago a second case was confirmed in Sabinas Hidalgo, and USDA officials are ready to use sterile flies if needed to protect local livestock. KIII-TV
- ➤ Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Meteorologist Stefanie Lauber said NWS Corpus Christi uses Spanish to share weather alerts in addition to English. The office has four Spanish-speaking meteorologists—one of only 13 nationwide—who help protect lives during severe weather. Action 10 News
- ➤ The Nueces River Authority plans a desalination plant on Harbor Island — starting with a 100-million-gallon phase — that will eventually produce 450-million gallons a day and expects water to flow by the end of 2028. Executive Director John Byrum said a meeting in Atascosa County went well and he hopes lawmakers and potential buyers will soon support the project, which could cost over $3 billion. KIII-TV

- ➤ On October 7, the Sister Elizabeth Clinic in Kingsville closed abruptly after notifying patients by letter due to funding cuts and staff shortages. Judge Madrid said plans are underway to reopen the clinic as soon as possible — more details will be provided next week. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Experts say elder abuse and scams are rising in South Texas as many cases go unreported—studies show only a small number of cases are known. Warning signs include isolation and odd money moves, and officials urge neighbors to report suspected mistreatment. KRIS 6 News
