COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pumpkin patches across the Coastal Bend offer family-friendly activities at spots like Asbury United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church running from October 1 to 31.   • The Boys & Girls Club (BGC) opens a new facility in Rockport that transforms a former G.I. Forum site into a safe space for youth programs (after-school care and camps).  KIII-TV
  • Volunteers assembled 1,000 U.S. flags at VFW Post 3837 in Calallen for the 5th annual Coastal Bend Flags of Valor display at Borchard Fairgrounds, with the kick-off ceremony on November 6 and the flags set to remain through December 3.   • SpaceX will conduct its 11th Starship test flight from Starbase on Monday at 6:15 p.m. CT and spectators can watch from Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island—an area known for large launch gatherings.  Caller Times
  • Kane Odum, a West Oso 8th grader, and his 24-year-old partner Demetrious Guzman launched 361 Motion Makers to create custom 3D-printed keychains & logos for customers across Texas. Kane started the business at age 12 after learning 3D modeling in robotics class, and it now serves local schools and businesses.  KRIS 6 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Frontier Airlines launched its first nonstop flight from Corpus Christi to Denver, promising lower fares and economic benefits for the Coastal Bend — Interim Aviation Director Jeremy Valgardson said more direct routes are expected to follow. Local families like the Hunters welcome the new flight as a faster way to reach loved ones in Denver.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas will waive college application fees at all public universities for the first time ever — a policy expected to boost college access. Banquete ISD seniors say the new rule will open doors for more students to apply.  KIII-TV
  • Miss Texas United States 2025 Madison Hickman—a student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi—spoke about her dyslexia and explained how she manages her learning challenge.  Caller Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Oct. 13, Corpus Christi city and county offices, including the Tax Assessor and courts, will remain open while federal and postal services will be closed in observance of Columbus Day. Bank branches like Bank of America and Wells Fargo will close for in-person transactions, though online services and ATMs will still work.  Caller Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Patel Real Estate Holdings bought the old Sunrise Mall and plans to build two Marriott hotels, a convention center, a four-story apartment building, and a 25-story condominium with 200 units behind Eddie's Taverns — plans show construction continuing off McArdle Road. Crews began demolishing the mall in August but paused at the Safe Space Storage and former Stein Mart site — city officials and the mall owner are finalizing property swaps before demolition resumes.  KRIS 6 News

  • Flour Bluff cheerleader Claire Harkins signed the national anthem in ASL at the Hornets' homecoming game, and her performance drew over 1 million views online. She said she did it to honor a deaf FBISD employee and her ASL teacher Leonor Torrez helped organize practice sessions.  KRIS 6 News
  • Friday night district games in the Coastal Bend impacted playoff standings as Gregory-Portland blanked Moody — Alice fell to Sharyland, Pioneer-Kingsville shut out S.A. Memorial, and Taft bested Banquete.  KIII-TV
  • The Friday Night Sports Blitz showcased a season-high 12 district battle games that impacted playoff standings—Chris Thomasson reported the highlights at 10:35 p.m. immediately after 3NEWS—and fans tuned in to watch the live action on the 3NEWS app.  KIII-TV
