COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Corpus Christi city officials are set to consider a $700,000 TIRZ funding reallocation today to build a new skatepark at North Padre Island’s Billish Park—if approved, the project will become the park’s fourth dedicated space for skateboarders and add to its existing playground and fitness trail.  Caller Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Corpus Christi City Council will vote today on granting The Texan Stores a 40-year lease to build a nearly 12,000-square-foot gas station at Corpus Christi International Airport on an eight-acre site along Highway 44 and International Drive—this project will feature 28 fuel pumps, four diesel lanes for large trucks, 196 parking spaces, and made-to-order food.  KRIS 6 News
  • The Corpus Christi City Council is voting today on a proposal to grant The Texan Stores a 40-year lease to build an almost 12,000 square foot mega gas station facility on 8 acres near the airport along Highway 44 & International Drive that will feature 28 fuel pumps, four diesel lanes and 196 parking spaces. The proposed store will also offer made-to-order food like gourmet sandwiches, salads and homemade burgers, with an option for a 10-year renewal on the contract.  Action 10 News

  • Coastal Bend Afro-Latino residents shared personal stories about navigating mixed heritage and identity in the local community.   • Heritage Park will host the free 64th Annual Texas Jazz Festival from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19. CCRTA will run shuttles every 20 minutes from City Hall, the Nueces County Courthouse, and TAMUCC while festival-goers must follow park rules such as no coolers or alcoholic beverages.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school seniors can apply to Texas public colleges for free during Free College Application Week, a new initiative that waives application fees through Senate Bill 2231. Students must submit their applications via the ApplyTexas portal by 11:59 p.m. Saturday, October 18 — TAMUCC will host a webinar Thursday to guide applicants.  KRIS 6 News

  • The USS Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi hosted a special ceremony today to mark the U.S. Navy's 250th birthday—nationwide celebrations honored a legacy that began in 1775 when the Continental Congress established the Continental Navy.  KRIS 6 News
  • Demolition crews began dismantling the old Harbor Bridge in Corpus Christi on Oct. 10, led by Flatiron/Dragados LLC this fall—workers use fire-resistant nets to capture falling debris and keep pedestrians safe.  Caller Times
