  • On Oct 13, SpaceX launched its final Version 2 Starship from Starbase near Corpus Christi, as the upper stage flew halfway around the world and the booster made a water landing in the Gulf of America—marking key test objectives. The test ended Version 2 and SpaceX plans to test an advanced Version 3 in the coming months to support future moon and Mars missions.  Caller Times
  • Kane Odom, an 8th grader at West Oso, started his own 3D printing business called 361 Motion Makers with his partner Demetrious Guzman, creating custom keychains, signs, and logos for customers across Texas — a move that shows local youth driving innovation. CULTURE NEWS

  • Heritage Park will host the 64th Annual Texas Jazz Festival from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19 with free admission for all ages. The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority will run free Park and Ride shuttles every 20 minutes from City Hall, the Nueces County Courthouse, and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi at the Ocean Drive bus stop—visitors must purchase tickets for drinks.  Action 10 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Corpus Christi fell to an average of $2.61 per gallon on Oct. 13, down 22.3 cents from the previous week according to a GasBuddy survey. The drop reflects a wider trend driven by rising oil production and less fall driving—factors that also led to lower state and national prices.  Caller Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Raw groundwater from a test well near Driscoll shows radioactive contamination and arsenic levels that exceed EPA limits—raising concerns about its suitability for Corpus Christi's proposed water project; city officials said reverse osmosis treatment will remove the contaminants—though treatment costs remain a key concern.  KRIS 6 News
  • Scientists from the Harte Research Institute returned Tuesday, Oct 14 with over 200 coral specimens from a Florida Keys nursery— they will study how corals resist environmental change and help monitor reef health.  KRIS 6 News
  • Officials say the combined water level at Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon Reservoir has dropped to 12 percent—water managers will monitor the situation and review water use policies.  KIII-TV
  • A study led by UT Marine Science Institute graduate student Jordan Cisco found that nurdles on Texas and Mexico beaches likely come from Texas plastic manufacturing sites—samples in Texas appeared fresh while those in Mexico showed signs of advanced weathering. The researchers analyzed over 700 samples collected from Houston to the Yucatan Peninsula using chemical tests and modeling to trace the pollution.  Caller Times

  • Today, city councilmembers approved the first reading of a long-term lease to bring Corpus Christi's first-ever The Texan fuel station and concession store to the International Airport — a move that marks a new amenity for air travelers.   • On Tuesday, TIRZ 2 approved a $700,000 skatepark for Billish Park in Padre Isles using funds reallocated from the $6.6 million Sand Dollar Avenue project — the project now awaits final city council approval.  KRIS 6 News
