- ➤ Delia 'Bobby' Guajardo, a longtime vendor at the Corpus Christi Trade Center and waitress at Gordita San Pancho's for over 20 years, passed away and is remembered for her big heart and warm smile. Family and friends say the Trade Center feels different without her feisty spirit—her kindness united many in our community. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Dreaming of Furever is a new nonprofit established in April that partners with Animal Care Services and People Assisting Animal Control to reduce stray animals in Corpus Christi by hosting education events and offering low-cost spay and neuter services. The organization focuses on prevention by teaching residents trap-neuter-return methods—helping them manage local pet populations safely. KIII-TV
- ➤ At the YWCA on Corpus Christi’s Southside, 89-year-old Socorro Moreno teaches swim exercises five days a week and inspires others to stay active—she plans to keep teaching even after turning 90 in November. - ➤ Texas regular gas prices dropped last week to an average of $2.58 per gallon from $2.72, as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The 19-cent decrease since last month and prices 15.6% below the national average at $3.06 highlight a steady decline compared with last year's average of $2.69 per gallon—showing lower statewide rates. - ➤ Local business Baywatch Tours is launching a hands-on boating education program for children as young as 10 at Marker 37 on October 25th and 26th. The program goes beyond the required six-hour online course—providing practical training in navigation, boat safety, and emergency procedures. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Teachers at Gillette Middle School say constant disruptions and low parental support have made classrooms unmanageable, leading longtime teacher Roberta Bliss to resign — and other educators are considering transfers. - ➤ Texas officials warned that if the federal shutdown continues past Oct 27, SNAP benefits for 3.5 million Texans— including 1.7 million children—will not be distributed in November. - ➤ Corpus Christi IceRays improved their NAHL standing after goalie Vladislav Bryzgalov recorded 51 saves in a 3-2 shootout win over Shreveport Mudbugs on Oct. 11—helping his team close the gap in the 22 games remaining for a postseason run. Coach Kevin St. Jacques said the team will work on its penalty kill and build on that win as they host the El Paso Rhinos today at 7:05 p.m. at Hilliard Center Arena—where a free open skate event will follow the game.
