  • The Round-Up for Change campaign in Corpus Christi is asking shoppers to donate spare change to fund an inclusive playground being built behind Keetch Family Library in Robstown—this project will cost $653,000 with $612,000 still needed to cover wheelchair-accessible swings, sensory equipment and adaptive play structures.  KRIS 6 News
  • Local food banks in Kingsville have seen a sharp rise in requests for help as the ongoing federal government shutdown leaves many government employees without pay, affecting military personnel, retirees, and families. The Salvation Army and B.T. Church now partner with Coastal Bend Bank—providing food assistance to those in need.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi International Airport is hosting a collection drive for over 100 TSA and FAA workers who have not received pay for three weeks, and the drive is accepting food & toiletries, pet supplies, baby items and household essentials 24/7 until October 31.  KRIS 6 News
  • Families packed Whataburger Field for a Halloween event with the Hooks—featuring candy, costumes and contests that brought a festive spirit to the night.  KIII-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Corpus Christi will host its 18th annual Dia de Los Muertos festival on November 1 from 3 p.m. to midnight—featuring live entertainment, traditional ofrendas and family activities. Organizers have planned four stages with diverse performances and will offer free Park-N-Ride service from select lots to ease parking.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi’s Daughters of the American Revolution chapter placed a commemorative plaque at Artesian Park to honor patriots ahead of America's 250th birthday on July 4 and highlight the park’s local military history — including ties to General Zachary Taylor when two future presidents served under him.  KRIS 6 News
  • VCA Oso Creek Animal Hospital will honor passed pets by displaying an ofrenda—an altar—for Dia de los Muertos on November 2nd. The display will feature photos, chew toys, and paw prints to help the community remember beloved pets.  KRIS 6 News

  • Ray High School honored its new Athletic Hall of Fame inductees when it recognized Renee Dodd-White, who joined her late father Bobby Dodd Jr.—a school legend—in the ceremony.  KIII-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders are weighing a new desalination option to secure water supplies—details on the plan will be shared in upcoming meetings.  KIII-TV
  • Two decorative crosswalks in Corpus Christi will be removed under Gov. Abbott's Safe Roads plan — a directive requiring TxDOT to eliminate distracting markings. One crosswalk at a key intersection designed by former councilmember Ben Molina and another on Ocean Drive near TAMUCC are under review for safety enhancements.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi’s rain barrel program is back — residents can buy barrels for $50 at City Hall and pick them up at the Civitan warehouse.  KIII-TV
  • Rockport-Fulton voters will decide whether to approve a school tax rate hike that may raise local funds by about 6.3% for teacher pay and student programs. The vote will give the ISD a chance to boost its education budget and support local schools.  KIII-TV

  • Family Dentistry by Dr. Baria Yassin will offer free tooth extractions to local residents on Nov. 19th at 9 a.m. at 6500 SPID+ patients will be seen on a first come, first served basis to help those who cannot afford dental care.  KRIS 6 News
  • County officials confirmed West Nile virus was found in mosquitoes trapped near Chapman Ranch — this marks the first positive sample in Nueces County since 2024.  KIII-TV
