  • Corpus Christi's First United Methodist Church is asking the community to donate as SNAP benefits will run out on Nov 1 due to a government shutdown—leaving nearly 42 million Americans at risk. Families needing help may call the church at 361-884-0391 at 8:30 a.m. on Mondays to schedule an appointment.  Caller Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews including the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department, Texas A&M Forest Service and Fire Chief Jamie McAlister are battling a 20-acre fire on FM 1069 — Cape Valero Road in Rockport that is now contained as officials advise residents to avoid the area.  KRIS 6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hoegemeyers Barbecue near the old Harbor Bridge has struggled with low customer access as concrete barricades and the demolition project create traffic chaos. Owner David Page said sales were slower than during COVID and he expects more customers once TxDOT resumes lowering the bridge today—optimism remains high for the local restaurant.  KRIS 6 News
  • Crews have raised a large Sprouts Farmers Market sign over the old Bed, Bath, and Beyond store on the 4700 block of South Padre Island Drive near Everhart Road. Sprouts will close its current location at Gulfway Shopping Center and open the new store in January 2026 with a deli and sandwich bar while offering transfer opportunities for employees in good standing.  KRIS 6 News

  • Corpus Christi's Windsor Park Elementary School was ranked the third-best elementary school in Texas by U.S. News & World Report on October 28—this school hosts the district’s gifted and talented program and accepts students from other districts, outranking many schools from larger cities like Houston and Dallas.  Caller Times
  • Nearly 50 TAMU-CC students are set to test their cybersecurity skills in a 36-hour hacking contest called IslanderHack this weekend to build future job experience—sponsors include CITGO and Tesla. The contest will also teach teamwork as students work to protect networks from cyber threats.  KIII-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi residents should report stranded or injured marine animals, such as cold-stunned sea turtles, to local wildlife officials immediately—timely reports help experts provide necessary care.  Caller Times
  • A plane dropped flame retardant on the Gregory Mill Fire today—fire officials say the drop is part of ongoing efforts to slow the blaze.  KIII-TV
  • Coastal Bend faces increased wildfire risk as the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Nueces County because of strong winds, dry air, and low humidity. Annaville Fire Chief Michael Clack warned that even routine activities like mowing can spark fires — he urged residents to take simple precautions.  KRIS 6 News

  • City officials said Corpus Christi’s new well fields and water reuse systems might delay a Level One Water Emergency — now projected for May 2027 — as the projects are planned to extend the timeline for meeting water needs.  KIII-TV

  • Miller with a 3 to 5 record will host Gregory-Portland with a 7 to 1 record at Buccaneer Stadium on Halloween night as the teams average 50 and 57 points in district play—each game key for controlling the UIL 5A-DII district title.  Action 10 News
  • Couples in Corpus Christi are trying FlingGolf, a mix of golf and lacrosse, as a quick and low-cost way to exercise together—trainer Del O'Kelly noted that social media helped boost interest this summer and said a regional competition is expected within the next year.  KRIS 6 News
