COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Port of Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District will host their 6th annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Artesian Park—this event will launch the Holiday Series with an 18-foot tree featuring nearly 700 lights and 175 ornaments that will remain lit through November and December.  KRIS 6 News
  • A new event featuring nuns on motorcycles will roll into Corpus Christi as Amy Clark and Sister Annette lead the ride with all proceeds benefiting the spirit center. The event will take place soon to offer a unique experience for local residents.  KIII-TV
  • Retired Corpus Christi police officers grilled and exchanged stories at their annual BBQ reunion—celebrating years of service and lifelong friendships.  KIII-TV
  • Gulf Coast Humane Society is celebrating 80 years with an 80s-themed Pawfest starting Saturday, November 8 at 3 p.m. at 3118 Cabaniss Parkway in Corpus Christi—live music, vendors, food trucks and adoptable pets will feature, and registration for the Wiener Dog Race closes November 7.  KRIS 6 News
  • Molina Neighborhood Center is struggling as funding from Texas Workforce was frozen, forcing it to pull from its own budget to keep vital services—like child care and funeral support—available on the Westside. Local neighbors and nonprofits are stepping up by offering carpentry, welding and volunteer work—helping the center remain open for the community.  KRIS 6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Whataburger will honor veterans and active duty service members by offering a free breakfast taquito every Tuesday at its Corpus Christi locations from November 11 through December 30—guests must show proof of service during breakfast hours to claim the offer.  KRIS 6 News
  • Academy Sports & Outdoors will build a new store in Calallen after the property was rezoned, with the nearly 60,000-square-foot store located at 3601 IH 69 Access Road—part of a 25.34-acre retail project. The $7 million project is set to start in March and finish by October.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Corpus Christi teacher Marie Soza turned personal tragedy into hope by creating a hospital school program at Driscoll Children's Hospital; her work helping young patients learn during treatment earned her the 7 Brew's October Hero Award + her program now inspires similar efforts at other hospitals.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • More than 150 injured birds were rescued from Shamrock Island Preserve over the past 36 hours after a severe hailstorm damaged them. ARK Wildlife Rehabilitation Center led the rescue effort with help from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program, The Nature Conservancy and Harte Research Institute, and officials said some birds have injuries too severe to treat.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nueces County residents are planning to form a groundwater conservation district to manage water after concerns that well water may be behind the river's high salt levels—officials expect the new group to give locals more control over water resources soon.  KIII-TV
  • On Nov. 5, Nueces County commissioners approved a 60-day extension of the burn ban order set to expire Nov. 30, and it will now remain in effect until Jan. 20, 2026. Dry, warm conditions + a high fire risk led to the extension, though County Judge Connie Scott may lift the ban if conditions improve.  Caller Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Open enrollment for Affordable Care Act health insurance for 2025 coverage began for Coastal Bend residents who saw rising deductibles and changes in premium subsidies, prompting many to review their current plans. Insurance experts warned that Medicare applications experienced delays due to government staffing issues—advising residents to confirm their doctor’s participation before the December 15 deadline closed enrollment.  KRIS 6 News
