COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A century-old World War II veteran visited a local event and shared his message of honor and hope, recalling his courage and sacrifice.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi has a long military past — from training grounds in World War I and II to a community where over 21,000 veterans and many active service members have shaped local life. The naval air station and Army Depot have boosted the local economy — supporting thousands of jobs and drawing visitors to learn about military history.  Caller Times
  • Attorney Thomas J. Henry is organizing a five-day Thanksgiving turkey giveaway to distribute 6,000 vouchers to Corpus Christi families in need from November 16th through November 20th at the Thomas J. Henry Center for Philanthropy (1102 Ocean Drive). Vouchers can be redeemed at H-E-B (3033 S. Port Ave.) from November 16th to November 30th and will be available daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until supplies run out.  KRIS 6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dutch Bros Coffee is planning its first Corpus Christi drive-thru on the 6200 block of Saratoga Boulevard in Southside, scheduled to open in fall — construction will start in April and finish in September as a $750,000 project located in the same center as Chipotle near Cimarron Boulevard.  KRIS 6 News

  • Veteran and TAMU-CC art instructor Ian Manseau turns his struggle with burn pit exposure into art that shows the lasting wounds of military service (his work draws attention to the challenges many veterans face).  KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kingsville ISD officials said they will cut budgets after voters voted no to the VATRE—a plan to fix a $4.2 million gap. Dr. Peter Pitts said the district will lower staffing and cut costs like insurance, with big changes planned for next school year.  Action 10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Some Texans started receiving partial SNAP payments on November 10 after a government shutdown delayed full benefits for November—payments vary widely by household with some receiving about 65% of the usual amount while others have yet to see any funds. For clients normally scheduled on or after November 11, benefits will be issued on their regular dates—officials say emergency funds are being used to keep the program running.  The Texas Tribune
  • Corpus Christi’s downtown post office now bears the name of World War II hero Bob Batterson—honoring his lifetime of service to his country and community.  KIII-TV
  • City engineers said the Holly Road Trestle Trail design is 60% complete — Flour Bluff residents weighed in on safety, access and design at a public meeting.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi travelers face cancellations and delays at CCIA as a government shutdown leaves federal employees unpaid and FAA services reduced—officials say normal operations may not resume until funding is restored.  KIII-TV
  • Jim Wells County passed a No Litter Ordinance to stop illegal dumping and reduce fire risk; violators will first get a warning before facing fines—officials noted that recent low humidity may help fires start along county roads.  KIII-TV
