COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Travis Manion Foundation brought veterans together at a local retirement center to honor their service and strengthen bonds beyond duty — the gathering highlighted continued support for local veterans.  KIII-TV
  • Flour Bluff's annual Christmas parade, which began in 1962, will run from Dec 7 to Dec 14 as ESD #2 leads a fire truck with Santa and volunteer trucks through neighborhoods—volunteers will hand out candy to children. The event, originally a training exercise, now brings holiday cheer to local families.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi residents may line up in their vehicles at 11 a.m. on Nov. 27 at 5502 Kostoryz Road to score a free turkey plate at the 82nd annual Joe Salem Thanksgiving meal event, which starts at noon and will distribute dinner until all 500 plates are given out. Volunteers may call 361-331-2006 + the event honors local businessman Joe Salem, whose family continues the longstanding tradition.  Caller Times
  • Thomas J. Henry will give out 6,000 free turkey vouchers to Corpus Christi families in need at the Thomas J. Henry Center for Philanthropy from Nov.16 to Nov.20, with 2,000 vouchers offered on Nov.16 and 1,000 vouchers given on each following day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until they run out - vouchers will only be accepted at H-E-B on 3033 S.   • The Mayor's Committee for Veteran Affairs hosted a Veterans Day ceremony at Ben Garza Gym that honored veterans and active duty military members for their service. The event was held at the gym after celebrations were moved from Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park—ongoing construction delayed its use.  KRIS 6 News
  • On Veterans Day, Bubba's 33 served free meals to over 500 veterans in Corpus Christi + Vietnam War heroes shared their memories while long lines formed along the freeway.  KRIS 6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The H-E-B Plus on Saratoga Boulevard will begin a $32 million renovation and expansion that will add about 4,700 square feet to its 174,000-square-foot store in May 2026 and finish in April 2027, according to state records. H-E-B did not comment on the project.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Restored World War II planes will fly over Aransas County Airport in Rockport for War Birds Over South Texas on Nov. 15 and 16 to honor local veterans and inspire young people to explore aviation careers—28 vintage aircraft including the famous Barbara III and a rare Curtiss Helldiver will be on display. Local schools will bring STEM students on Nov. 14 to learn about aircraft maintenance and pilot, mechanic and air traffic control careers.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Del Mar College Board of Regents is weighing extending the Freedom to Dream tuition waiver program to fall 2026 and will vote on changes in December. The college may tighten eligibility by adding college readiness requirements—steps that follow a successful pilot serving nearly 1,800 students.  Caller Times
  • Corpus Christi ISD’s new local school library advisory council, made up of seven parent volunteers, reviewed 1,280 book titles from pre-K to high schools and delivered its first recommendation for library book purchases under Texas' new school library laws—on November 10 the school board unanimously approved a list of nonfiction and fiction titles for campus librarians to choose from. The council will meet again in January to review another list for the next school year.  Caller Times

  • Padre Island officials are beginning bridge improvements that may slow traffic briefly—work that will keep the island’s main connection in top shape.  KIII-TV
  • The USS Lexington held its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday with hundreds attending a wreath laying in Corpus Christi Bay to honor veterans' service—highlights included a performance by the Veterans Band and free admission for current and past service members.  KRIS 6 News
