COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Communities across the Coastal Bend are hosting free Thanksgiving events to help those in need, with meals, turkey giveaways, and coat distributions planned for local families. Church Unlimited is holding its giveaway today from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Westside Missions and Thomas J. Henry Center for Philanthropy is offering turkey vouchers until November 20—other drive-thru and mobile food distributions are also scheduled.  KRIS 6 News
  • The 38th annual share your Christmas food drive is now open for school registration as it helps families in need during the holiday season. Schools are encouraged to sign up soon to continue this longstanding community tradition.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi residents are encouraged to donate money, food, supplies, or time this holiday season to help local families in need. Several organizations including the Children’s Christmas Appeal, Coastal Bend Food Bank and Catholic Charities are preparing to assist—donors and volunteers should contact the groups directly for details.  Caller Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local hemp grower Jake Gerry of FreshGrown TX warned that a hidden provision in a funding bill could force limited THC levels by capping hemp-derived products to 0.4 mg per package if the rule is approved, and he said the change would impact farms, manufacturers and retailers. He urged those who rely on these products for relief to contact their legislators before the new rules take effect next November — lawmakers have about a year to act.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge ordered Flour Bluff ISD to remove Ten Commandments displays from classrooms by Dec. 1 after parents challenged Senate Bill 10—claiming that the law violates First Amendment rights. The district said it was aware of the order—without commenting further on the pending legal actions.  Caller Times
  • Today, the Corpus Christi City Council accepted a $75,000 donation from H-E-B to expand the Meals on Wheels program by delivering about 9,677 additional meals to seniors and increasing service capacity by 15.7% for fiscal year 2026+ the donation is part of H-E-B’s statewide initiative to support senior nutrition services.  KRIS 6 News
  • The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is moving forward with permanent rules to regulate hemp product sales even as federal restrictions may soon challenge the industry. The commission opened a public comment period through Jan. 4 and will vote on the new regulations in January—officials said they will follow the governor’s directive until further federal guidance is provided.  The Texas Tribune
  • Robstown residents have received high electric bills because meters were misread—city officials said the utility system will use cell phone photos to verify readings and reduce future errors.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi is set to receive over $264,000 in state funding for homeless services as local nonprofits have until December 3 to submit their applications — a review panel will then recommend recipients to city council in January.  KRIS 6 News
  • City leaders met on Tuesday to review the $1.2 billion Inner Harbor Desalination Plant—paused in September—that led residents to gather outside City Hall and express worries about water quality and local impacts. Neighbors said they would keep pressing officials on the plant’s cost and long-term effects.  KRIS 6 News
