- ➤ The annual Tree of Angels ceremony brought families together & honored victims of violent crime while offering hope and unity to everyone who lost a loved one. KIII-TV
- ➤ HEB volunteers placed a 6-foot star on a 66-foot downtown Christmas tree at Water's Edge Park — which is decorated with nearly 6,000 lights and 1,500 ornaments — ahead of Saturday’s tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. with festivities starting at 4 p.m. and an expected 10,000 attendees. KRIS 6 News
- ➤ Today the Diocese of Corpus Christi announced that Pope Leo XIV appointed Bishop Mario Alberto Avilés as the new bishop, replacing Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey who led the diocese since 2010. Avilés, who served as Auxiliary Bishop in Brownsville, will be officially installed on Jan. 28 with evening prayers on Jan. 27—he plans to visit parishes and support local Catholic schools. - ➤ The Yuletide Wonderland event supports the YWCA's work to end racism, empower women — and bring peace to Corpus Christi. Esmeralda Teran will speak at the celebration. KIII-TV

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Corpus Christi ISD is holding community meetings in December and January to get feedback on plans to close up to seven elementary and middle schools for the 2026-27 school year. Meetings are set for Dec. 4 at Travis Elementary, Dec. 9 at Browne Middle, Dec. 16 at Fannin Elementary, Dec. 18 at Sanders Elementary, Jan. 6 with virtual details pending, Jan. 7 at Kostoryz Elementary, and Jan. 8 at Martin Middle — the board is considering these steps due to a budget deficit and dropping enrollments.
