  • Habitat for Humanity is hosting a holiday toy drive in Corpus Christi with the help of the Free Store and local businesses to bring joy to families this season.  KIII-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Coffee Mugg, a Harry Potter-themed coffee shop (now at 4535 SPID), has expanded into a larger, two-story space for fans to gather and enjoy their favorite brews. Owner Susana Almaguer opened the new venue after closing the original shop on Morgan Avenue.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Harbor Playhouse in Corpus Christi is set to begin a $4.9M renovation next summer that will update the HVAC system, repair building elements, and improve accessibility. The project, funded by Type B sales tax revenue, aims to preserve the historic theater for future performances.  KRIS 6 News
  • Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi dedicated its new H-E-B Performance Hall today after H-E-B donated $1 million, and University President Kelly Miller said the hall will host more community events — designed to boost local arts and culture — soon.  KRIS 6 News
  • Arthur Seago, the new executive director of The Ritz Theatre, said the historic downtown venue will reopen by Christmas Day 2029. He outlined goals to maintain momentum and boost community engagement + secure the $30 million needed to complete the restoration.  Caller Times

  • CCISD is hosting the nation’s largest cybersecurity training for educators today to help stop phishing and AI-based scams — the session teaches vital steps to secure student and staff data. Officials say the proactive effort comes as most K-12 schools report cyber incidents.  KRIS 6 News
  • TAMU-CC hosted Paws on the Island today to help students unwind during finals by enjoying interactions with llamas and therapy animals on campus.  KIII-TV
  • Therapy animals helped TAMUCC students de-stress today during the Paws on the Island event (hosted by the campus Counseling Center) ahead of final exams. Around 650 to 700 students attended the session to find calm before exam week.  KRIS 6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, Corpus Christi officials said that Choke Canyon Reservoir measured only 10% of its 662,821-acre-feet capacity amid an ongoing drought. The city is shifting more water use to Eastern supplies — increasing surveillance to stop illegal water diversion.  Caller Times

  • As cold weather moves in, the Corpus Christi Fire Department advises residents to use approved heating equipment — keeping flammable items three feet away and switching off heaters when unattended — to reduce fire risks and carbon monoxide exposure.  KRIS 6 News
