COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Corpus Christi Animal Care Services is waiving all adoption fees during Bissell’s Empty the Shelters Holiday Event, which runs Dec. 1-15 daily from 12:00 to 5:30 p.m. It covers free essential pet services (spaying, vaccinations, and microchipping) to help families welcome new pets.  KRIS 6 News
  • Veterans groups in Nueces County, including Patriot Guard Riders, and county leaders are uniting to honor fallen service members by ensuring none are buried alone.  KIII-TV
  • Corpus Christi has finalized an agreement that allows youth sports groups to rent fields at Southside Sports Complex for affordable rates starting at $4.25 per hour. The city will handle facility maintenance & offer organized access for practices, tournaments and company events at 1901 Paul Jones Avenue.  KRIS 6 News

  • Buffalo Wild Wings GO opened its third location today at 14202 Northwest Blvd, giving the first 50 guests a $20 gift card and serving traditional and boneless wings, burgers, and other favorites in a 1,800 sqft space. The restaurant operates daily from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.  KRIS 6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown businesses decorated for the Mayor’s Sparkling Christmas Lights Contest, with judges assessing entries on Dec. 5 during the First Friday ArtWalk; the public can vote for the People’s Choice Award through Dec. 5–31.  KRIS 6 News
  • South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center is hosting HOLLY-DAYS at the GARDENS on Dec. 12-13 & Dec. 19-20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 8545 S. Staples Street, featuring festive displays, hayrides, light installations and family fun activities.  KRIS 6 News
  • Grand Marshal Dale Rankin oversaw final touches on 19 decorated boats as crews worked into the evening to transform their vessels into festive displays for the 52nd annual La Posada Boat Parade, which began Friday at 7 p.m. at Doc's Waterline on Padre Island.  KRIS 6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CCISD has filed for an extension to delay associate teachers from being demoted under new certification rules — a move aimed at giving the district time to review pending legislation.  KIII-TV
  • Del Mar College is expanding its Freedom to Dream Tuition Waiver Program as it opens applications for a second cohort to begin Fall 2026. The program offers free tuition for qualifying students in Corpus Christi ISD — Calallen, Flour Bluff, Tuloso-Midway, West Oso, London, or Robstown and now adds continuing education options with career pathways.  KRIS 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation is accepting vending permit applications from Dec. 15 to Jan. 16 for the busy season from March 1 to Sept. 30, 2026—covering popular beach and park spots like Cole Park and Bay and Gulf beaches.  KRIS 6 News
  • Corpus Christi officials said the November 2026 goal for the Evangeline water project remains on track despite a two-month moratorium in San Patricio County on new drilling permits. City Manager Peter Zanoni noted that ongoing pre-construction work will support securing the water supply.  KRIS 6 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Joaquin outscored Refugio in a thrilling state semifinal, winning 37-28 after a decisive 30-8 fourth quarter at FCU Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 13; they will play Hamilton next Wednesday at AT&T Stadium for the Class 2A Division I title.  KIII-TV
  • Flooding at North Beach forced a longtime senior softball tournament to be postponed. Players hope the planned city drainage project (expected soon) will safeguard the fields for future games.  KIII-TV
